Just like most things in my life, my astrophotography passion was planted as a seemingly random seed, then grew and blossomed from my husband’s suggestions and support. It all started when we spent our 30th wedding anniversary, not in Sicily where it all began, but in Grand Island, Nebraska (yes, really!)…photographing the total solar eclipse, in totality over Grand Island on the exact time we got married in 1987. Then, we got a camper, began camping in dark skies locations, and filling the nights on those trips photographing the Milky Way. Finally, for Christmas 2020, Paul upped the game…getting me a telescope, equatorial mount and many other peripherals (too numerous to mention!) enabling me to completely fall in love with the pursuit of capturing the wonders of the universe.
I never would have imagined I would have become so passionate about this hobby – but I’ve found deep sky astrophotography to be the perfect mix of science and art to challenge both sides of this engineer’s brain for the long run. In this presentation I’ll discuss the art and science of astrophotography. The science of shot planning and collecting the data. The art of processing the RAW data and turning photons into art. Finally, I’ll share some of my favorite images – nebulae, galaxies, eclipses. –from beersastrophotography.com
